biography

Felisa Prieto was born in October 15, 1983 and raised in Bogota, Colombia; she and her family fled the country and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2001 where she studied fine arts with emphasis on photography at Broward College under noted photographer Teresa Diehl. In 2007 Prieto transferred to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received a scholarship and two grants to finish her career as an Installation and Performance Artist.
Prieto comes from a family of graphic designers, architects, sculptors, painters, photographers, historians, and arts administrators; because of this it is important for Prieto to educate others about art. She is planning on opening an art gallery in Miami to help promote contemporary emerging artists in the area, as well as around the country.

Felisa’s work has been part of group exhibitions in Dade and Broward County, including the first Design Within Reach Paulistano Chair Uncovered competition in Coral Gables and Miami Beach, Broward Art Guild in Fort Lauderdale, and the Art Institute of Weston where she worked as head of the ceramic department, and won first place in a faculty contest in 2006. Prieto was also participant at a benefit event at The Photo Show Gallery in New York in 2004, and winner of second place at Dom Perignon Photography Competition, Exclusive for M.F.A. students held at the Bernice Steinbaum Gallery in Miami Design District in 2006. Prieto is continuing to present performances and installations at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Many of these works can be seen at her website www.felisaprieto.com; with the exception of Fall 2009 “Gifted”, a distribution show at the Mess Hall in Rogers Park, Chicago, where Prieto gave away 20 limited edition sculpture bags; product of the recycling of past works of her.
